Dr.Kornbluth, my gastrointestinal doctor of 10 years,
once said, “Pain doesn’t build character” So I agreed
to take the Codine prescription.
I think I agree, that pain doesn’t build character but
handled correctly it may build a sense of humor.

INT: OPERATION ROOM DAY
Sedated female patient in gown lies on her side. A
Heart monitor is BEEPING. Several tubes and monitors
surround her.
DR.KORNBLUTH enters through swinging door in the
background he is in scrubs and knocks the patients
limp hand as he passes her

DR. KORNBLUTH

How ya doin’ Brina? Comftable?

DR.WEINER
(Off Screen)
I thought you were gonna trick me. Askin’ her if
she’s comftable.

DR. KORNBLUTH
I wouldn’t trick you (Pause) this is my patient.
DR.KORNBLUTH is tinkering with a radio off screen

DR.WEINER
Ok lets just get this over with Dr.Lampard needs the
room

DR. KORNBLUTH
Naah I got him the other room next store

DR.WEINER
Oh he’s not gonna like that.

DR.WEINER
(Changing the subject)
Ya going to Puerto Rico for Christmas?

DR. KORNBLUTH
Naah, I dunno, Belize probably.

The radio finally turns on and in fades Peter
Gabriel’s “Sledge Hammer”
DR. KORNBLUTH lubes up the patient and then inserts a
10ft long camera cable into her anus…

Colon Karaoke
is a 6-minute video taken from a
documented colonoscopy procedure in which the song
Sledge Hammer comes on the radio in the operating
room. A voice over was done in postproduction adding
the patient singing along to the radio. Colon Karaoke
highlights the absurdity we endure in the most
personally penetrating modern day experiences. It also
plays with issues of power, sex and humility in
popular culture and other less interesting ideas.
